No. 2 Gophers sweep Duluth on the road Ava Lindsay’s overtime goal in game one helped Minnesota earn two wins. Categories: Hockey Marquee Sports by Gabby Hanson Published November 2, 2026 The No. 2 Minnesota women’s hockey team came away with two close wins against the University of Minnesota Duluth, earning a series sweep with back-to-back 3-2 wins at AMSOIL Arena. The Gophers were without junior defenseman Chloe Primerano , junior forward Julia Schalin and sophomore forward Tereza Plosova , who were away competing internationally. Lindsay seals overtime win in game one Minnesota started Friday’s game strong, with sophomore forward Bella Fanale scoring twice in the first period to give the Gophers a 2-0 lead. This was Fanale’s second multi-goal game of the season. Duluth cut the lead to one with a power-play goal early in the second period. The Bulldogs continued to push in the third, tying the game with 34.5 seconds remaining after pulling their goaltender. The teams went to overtime, where senior forward Ava Lindsay scored with 36.9 seconds left. Freshman forward Adrianna Milani set up Lindsay in the slot, and Lindsay fired a shot past the goaltender to secure the 3-2 win. Lindsay’s overtime goal marked her 100th career point. Head coach Greg “Boom” May said the team had to respond after giving up the late tying goal. Despite not being completely happy with Minnesota’s performance, he liked how the team finished the game. “I give our team a lot of credit,” May said. “We could’ve felt bad about ourselves, but we didn’t. We dug in there, had a great overtime and finished it off.” Hartmetz scores first career goal to close out the sweep Saturday’s game followed a similar pattern, with Minnesota once again earning a 3-2 victory. After a scoreless first 15 minutes, freshman forward Maddie McCullough opened the scoring at 15:39 of the first period. Duluth responded just over a minute later, but sophomore forward Sienna D’Alessandro answered 55 seconds after that to put Minnesota back in front. The Gophers extended their lead in the second period when freshman defenseman Sloane Hartmetz scored her first collegiate goal. Last week, the freshman was named Western Collegiate Hockey Association Defender of the Week for her four-assist weekend against Lindenwood. Hartmetz’s first college goal against Duluth would go on to be the game-winner. Duluth cut the lead to one early in the third period, but Minnesota held on for the remainder of the game to complete the series sweep. Junior goaltender Hannah Clark made 54 saves between the two games. May said Saturday’s game showed improvement from both teams, with more speed and physical play. He also recognized the challenge of winning twice against Duluth on the road. “They’re a tough team to beat, especially to beat them twice on the road,” May said. “Overall, just proud of our group for persevering after they scored early enough in the third period to make us think about our game a little bit. We stuck with it and found a way to get the job done.” View Story Comments 0 Like This Story Share on Facebook Share on X Email this Story Print this Story Leave a Comment More to Discover More in Hockey No. 18 Gophers men's hockey hosts border rival No. 1 Wisconsin No. 18 Gophers men’s hockey earns overtime win after tie against Penn State Gophers women’s hockey to face Duluth shorthanded Gophers freshman Adrianna Milani makes her mark early Gophers men's hockey top rivals No. 3 North Dakota in massive series upset Gophers men's hockey prepares for rival No. 3 North Dakota More in Marquee Allison Lussier’s partner charged with murder, but her family says justice isn’t served yet ‘More music’: The Minnesota Opera Orchestra puts on a benefit concert amid uncertain times Meet Mouthful, Minneapolis’ rising indie rock band Opinion: Social media is making us antisocial, and only we can change that Minnesota’s midterms unfold smoothly amid worries of federal interference Midwest Greek Step Show unites generations of University alumni More in Sports Week 10: Gophers football hopes to upset undefeated No. 8 UCLA Gophers men's basketball defeats North Dakota in season opener Gophers women’s basketball beats Harvard in season opener Gophers men’s and women’s basketball host opening-night doubleheader Gophers football falls short in overtime loss to No. 4 Indiana Kicking in a new environment
